You're on a roof. The phone rings. You can't get it. Most callers just dial the next guy. Not anymore. With Contractor Systems, every missed call gets a text back. The missed call shows up in your lead inbox, with the recording. And when they reply, it lands right in the same thread. Book the job. Get back to work. Included on Advanced. Two ninety-seven a month.

How can contractors use auto reply messages for missed calls?

Contractors use an auto-reply message for a missed call by sending one text within seconds from the business number the caller just dialed. The first line names the business. Ask one question: what they need, plus the address or ZIP. Give a callback window only if you can keep it. The reply lands in the lead inbox. Advanced is $297 a month and includes that text, in wording you approve. Example Contracting Co. is a fictional name. Replace the clock time with a window you can keep.

Example · Business hours

Hi, this is Example Contracting Co. Sorry we missed your call. We're on a job. What do you need done, and what's the address? We'll call you back by 3:00 PM.

Example · After hours

Thanks for calling Example Contracting Co. We're closed and reopen at 8:00 AM. Reply with what you need and your ZIP code, and we'll call you back when we reopen.

Example · Urgent

This is Example Contracting Co. Sorry we missed you. Is this urgent? Reply with what's going on and the address, and a person will call you back. If anyone is in danger, call 911.

Quick answer

A missed call text back service is an automatic text sent from your business number within seconds of a call nobody answered, so the homeowner gets a reply instead of dialing the next contractor. The missed call is logged, the text goes out in wording you approved, and the reply lands in one inbox with your calls, texts, and forms. Contractor Systems includes that service, done for you, on the $297-a-month Advanced plan, with a tracked business number and automatic follow-up. Monthly billing adds a one-time $297 setup fee, waived on quarterly and annual billing.

How to set up the missed-call auto reply

Send one text within seconds from the business number the caller just dialed. The first line names the business. Ask one question: what they need, plus the address or ZIP. Give a callback window only if you can keep it. Write a business-hours version, an after-hours version, and an urgent version. The reply lands in the lead inbox, marked as needing a response, and one person should own the next call or text from that inbox. Keep the text about the job. A coupon or a promotion belongs in a different message. Automated texts add "Reply STOP to opt out" when the message does not already say it. General guidance: a landline cannot receive a text, so those callers still need a person to call them back. This page does not describe an automatic check for landlines. Test it by calling your own business number from a phone that is not the office line, and confirm the text that comes back is the wording you approved. Contractor Systems includes that text on Advanced at $297 a month, in wording you approve, and the reply lands in the lead inbox with calls, texts, and forms. Monthly billing adds a one-time $297 setup fee, waived on quarterly and annual billing. The three messages under the question at the top of this page are labeled Example. Example Contracting Co. is a fictional name. They are wording you can adapt. They are not messages a customer sent us. Replace the clock time with a window you can keep.

Contractors use an auto reply when nobody picks up: the caller gets a text within seconds, in wording you approved, and the reply lands in the lead inbox with calls, texts, and forms. Write a business-hours message and a separate after-hours message, ask one question about the job, and send it from the business number the caller already uses. Contractor Systems includes that text on Advanced at $297 a month. The steps are general setup guidance where they say so, and they are not legal advice.

  1. 1. Separate business-hours and after-hours replies

Write one reply for business hours and a different one for after hours. The templates page has a business-hours message (you are on a job, and you ask what they need) and an after-hours message (you are closed, you say when you reopen, and you ask what they need and their ZIP code). Contractor Systems does not publish a quiet-hours window. The text still goes out within seconds after the office is closed. You approve the wording.

  2. 2. Ask one question, such as the service and an address or ZIP

Ask one question about the job. The after-hours template asks what they need and their ZIP code. The estimate template asks for the address and a few words about the project. One question gets a reply. A long menu of services usually does not.

  3. 3. Send it from the number they dialed

Send the text from the business number the caller already dials. On Contractor Systems you can forward the number on the truck and on Google, so the text comes from that number. Porting a cell phone number moves it off that phone. On RingCentral, the text goes out from a number you pick that is already on that account. On Dialpad, text-backs go out from the Contractor Systems texting number, not the Dialpad number.

  4. 4. Suppress repeat texts

Do not text the same missed call over and over. On Dialpad and RingCentral, each caller gets at most one automatic text-back that day, an answered call does not get one, and a customer marked do-not-text does not get one. The templates page says to send one follow-up if they do not reply, then stop.

  5. 5. Leave out saved contacts, vendors, and employees

General guidance: an auto reply is for someone calling about a job, not for a vendor, an employee, or a number you already have saved. This page does not describe an automatic filter for saved contacts or vendors beyond do-not-text.

  6. 6. Honor STOP opt-outs

General guidance, not legal advice: if someone replies STOP, stop texting them. Contractor Systems adds "Reply STOP to opt out" on an automated text that does not already say it. A reply of STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT turns off review requests and marketing texts and emails for that contact. On Dialpad and RingCentral, STOP marks the customer do-not-text. CTIA's July 2019 Messaging Principles say to honor STOP and then stop.

  7. 7. Keep it about the service, not a promotion

General guidance, not legal advice: the missed-call text asks what they need. A coupon, a review request, or a sale belongs in a different message. On Contractor Systems, review requests go out after the job, not inside the missed-call text.

  8. 8. Test from an outside phone

General guidance: call the business number from a phone that is not the office line, let it ring through, and confirm the text that comes back is the wording you approved. This page does not publish a required number of test calls.

What is a contractor call-back system?

A contractor call-back system is how the office gets back to a caller nobody answered. Missed call text back for contractors is the automatic part: the call is logged, a text goes out from the business number within seconds in wording you approved, and the reply lands in the lead inbox with calls, texts, and forms. A person still calls back from that inbox. Give a callback time only if you can keep it. On Dialpad and RingCentral, each caller gets at most one automatic text-back that day. Pro adds the All Hours AI receptionist, which answers the call instead of only sending the text. Advanced includes the text at $297 a month.

Wording you can copy, including when to name a callback time, is on missed-call text templates. Dialpad's connection is on the Dialpad press release.

How does a missed call text back service work?

  1. 1A homeowner calls your business numberThe tracked number on your website and ads, or the number you already publish, forwarded to us.
  2. 2Nobody picks upYou're on a roof, under a sink, or it's after hours. The call is logged in the lead inbox.
  3. 3A text goes out within secondsFrom your business number, in wording you approved, asking what they need.
  4. 4They reply, and you see it in one inboxThe reply lands next to your calls, texts, and form leads, marked as needing a response.
  5. 5Follow-up keeps going if they go quietAutomatic text and email follow-up stays in front of the lead until they book or say no.

What to look for in a missed call text back service

Speed, follow-up, quiet hours, STOP and HELP, and A2P 10DLC registration. The lines below are what Contractor Systems does where this site says so. Where it does not, the line says that. Wording you can copy is on missed-call text templates. The product page is missed-call text-back. Plan prices are on pricing. What a marketing retainer costs is on contractor marketing cost per month.

  1. Speed

The text goes out from your business number within seconds of a call nobody answered. You approve the wording. On the Dialpad and RingCentral connections, each caller gets at most one automatic text-back that day.

  2. Follow-up

Advanced includes automatic text and email follow-up that stays in front of the prospect until they book or say no. The reply to the first text lands in the lead inbox with your calls, texts, and forms. Estimate follow-up is on Pro.

  3. Quiet hours

Contractor Systems does not publish a quiet-hours window for missed-call text-back. The text goes out within seconds of the missed call, including when the call comes after the office is closed. The CTIA Messaging Principles and Best Practices (July 2019) checked for this page do not set a clock time for when a text may be sent.

  4. STOP and HELP

CTIA's July 2019 Messaging Principles say to use STOP in the opt-out instructions, to also act on normal language such as stop, end, unsubscribe, cancel, quit, and "please opt me out," then send one confirmation and stop. A HELP command is one customer-care option that document lists on a recurring-message confirmation. Contractor Systems adds "Reply STOP to opt out" on an automated text that does not already say it. An inbound STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT turns off review requests and marketing texts and emails for that contact. That handler does not itself send the confirmation; the texting provider sends it. Dialpad and RingCentral connections mark STOP as do-not-text, and START turns texting back on. People who opt in to texts from Contractor Systems can reply HELP, or email [email protected], under the SMS terms. This page does not claim a HELP auto-reply on every missed-call text.

  5. A2P 10DLC registration

US carriers require a business to register before it texts customers from a regular local number. Unregistered texts get filtered or blocked. Contractor Systems files the brand and campaign registration. On the pricing page, SMS 10DLC registration is included with the AI Receptionist and with Pro and Master. The Campaign Registry's own fees are in the table below. They are not a Contractor Systems price.

What does the caller see?

A text from your business number, within seconds of the missed call. The caller can reply on that thread. The reply lands in the lead inbox, with the calls, forms, and Google messages that need a response.

A plumbing example from the product reads: "Hi, this is Bayside Plumbing. Sorry we missed your call. Is this an emergency?" The next texts ask what's going on and offer a time. You approve the messages. The longer version of why the unanswered call walks to the next contractor is Missed calls are leaking money.

Does the text come from a business number or your cell?

From a business number. Advanced includes a tracked number for your website and ads, with two-way texting from one app. You can forward the number you already publish, or port it. Porting a cell phone number moves it off that phone. Most contractors forward instead and keep the personal line separate.

The number on the truck and on Google can stay the one homeowners already dial. Plumbers, HVAC companies, and roofers use the same setup. Details and the setup fee are on pricing.

What does A2P 10DLC registration cost?

US carriers require a business to register before it texts customers from a regular local number. That registration is called 10DLC (A2P 10DLC). Unregistered texts get filtered or blocked. Contractor Systems files the brand and campaign registration for you. We need the legal business name as it appears with the IRS, the EIN, the business address, and a website. A sole proprietor without an EIN registers with the owner's name and mobile number, and confirms with a one-time code. Approval usually takes 3 to 10 business days. Calls and email work in the meantime.

On the pricing page, SMS 10DLC registration is included with the AI Receptionist (After Hours and All Hours) and with Pro and Master. The fees below are The Campaign Registry's, from its fee guide last updated August 13, 2026 (verified Oct 21, 2026). They are not a Contractor Systems price. Which fee applies depends on the brand type and the campaign use case the registry assigns.

Should you buy a standalone tool or a bundle?

A standalone texting app is another login and another bill, and you still need a website, a place for the lead, and follow-up after the text. Field-service software sometimes includes texting inside a larger suite. Contractor Systems puts missed-call text-back in Advanced with the website, the lead inbox, automatic follow-up, and review requests, at $297 a month. Estimate follow-up is on Pro. That set of pieces is a done-for-you front office for contractors.

Every customer gets asked after the job, and every customer gets the Google review link. If a customer is unhappy, they can also tell you privately so you can follow up. The done-for-you versus do-it-yourself version of this choice is Contractor Systems vs. a GoHighLevel agency. Published website prices are on best website company for contractors.

Questions

How can contractors use auto reply messages for missed calls?

Contractors use an auto-reply message for a missed call by sending one text within seconds from the business number the caller just dialed. The first line names the business. Advanced is $297 a month and includes that text, in wording you approve. Example Contracting Co. is a fictional name. Replace the clock time with a window you can keep. Example, business hours: "Hi, this is Example Contracting Co. Sorry we missed your call. We're on a job. What do you need done, and what's the address? We'll call you back by 3:00 PM." Example, after hours: "Thanks for calling Example Contracting Co. We're closed and reopen at 8:00 AM. Reply with what you need and your ZIP code, and we'll call you back when we reopen." Example, urgent: "This is Example Contracting Co. Sorry we missed you. Is this urgent? Reply with what's going on and the address, and a person will call you back. If anyone is in danger, call 911."

What is a missed call text back service?

A missed call text back service sends an automatic text from your business number within seconds when a call goes unanswered. It tells the caller you saw the call and asks what they need, so the lead stays with you instead of calling the next contractor. On Contractor Systems it includes the text, a tracked business number, the lead inbox for the reply, and automatic follow-up, on Advanced at $297 a month.

How much does missed-call text-back cost for contractors?

Standalone missed-call text-back apps each publish their own pricing, and you still pay separately for a website, an inbox, and follow-up. Contractor Systems includes missed-call text-back on Advanced at $297 a month, with the website, a tracked business number, the lead inbox, and automatic follow-up. Monthly billing adds a one-time $297 setup fee; quarterly and annual billing waive it.

Is missed-call text-back included at $297 a month?

Yes. Advanced is $297 a month and includes missed-call text-back, a tracked business number, the lead inbox, automatic follow-up, the website, and review requests. The one-time setup fee is $297 on monthly billing and is waived on quarterly and annual billing.

Can I keep the number on my truck and on Google?

Yes. We can forward your current business number, or port it. Porting a cell phone number moves it off that phone. Most contractors forward instead and keep the personal line separate. Either way, missed-call text-back and call logging work on the number used on your website and ads.

Does Contractor Systems charge extra for 10DLC registration?

US carriers require registration before a business texts from a regular local number, and unregistered texts get filtered or blocked. Contractor Systems files the brand and campaign registration. On our pricing page, SMS 10DLC registration is included with the AI Receptionist (After Hours and All Hours) and with Pro and Master. The Campaign Registry's fee guide, last updated August 13, 2026 and verified Oct 21, 2026, lists a $4.50 one-time brand fee for a private-profit business, $4 for a sole proprietor, and monthly campaign fees of $1.50 (low-volume mixed), $2 (sole proprietor), or $10 (mixed, customer care, or marketing). Standard vetting is $41.50 when it is required. Those are The Campaign Registry's fees, and which one applies depends on the brand type and use case.

What should I look for in a missed call text back service?

Five checks: speed, follow-up, quiet hours, STOP and HELP opt-out, and A2P 10DLC registration. Contractor Systems sends the text from the business number within seconds, and Advanced ($297 a month) includes automatic text and email follow-up. This site does not publish a quiet-hours window, and the text still goes out after hours. Automated texts add "Reply STOP to opt out." STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, and QUIT turn off review requests and marketing texts and emails for that contact. A HELP auto-reply is published for people who opt in to texts from Contractor Systems, not as a claim about every missed-call text. Contractor Systems files 10DLC brand and campaign registration. The checklist on this page has the detail and the CTIA source.

Does missed-call text-back wait for quiet hours?

Contractor Systems does not publish a quiet-hours window. The text goes out within seconds of a missed call, including after the office is closed. The CTIA Messaging Principles and Best Practices from July 2019, checked October 26, 2026, do not set a clock time for sending a text.

How do STOP and HELP work?

Automated Contractor Systems texts add "Reply STOP to opt out" when the message does not already say it. A reply of STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT turns off review requests and marketing texts and emails for that contact. The confirmation text is the provider's, not a second message this site claims to write. On Dialpad and RingCentral, STOP marks the customer do-not-text and START turns texting back on. HELP, or an email to [email protected], is in the SMS terms for people who opt in to texts from Contractor Systems. CTIA's July 2019 Messaging Principles say senders should honor STOP and normal-language opt-outs, send one confirmation, and then stop, and they list a HELP command as one way to give a customer-care contact.

What if I want the call answered, not just texted?

Pro is $597 a month and includes the All Hours AI receptionist on top of missed-call text-back. Answers 24/7, including business hours. After Hours is $147 a month if you stay on Advanced. Answers nights, weekends, and holidays. It takes the message and texts it to you, and it does not answer during business hours. All Hours is also available on its own for $297 a month. Plumbers can read the plumbing version of the receptionist page, and the after-hours answering page covers nights, weekends, and holidays. Advanced still texts the caller within seconds when a person doesn't pick up. AI receptionist · AI receptionist for plumbers · after-hours answering service for contractors.
